Dr. Katey Wahlen came to the Sacramento area on a whim and quickly fell in love with the local culture, food, and natural beauty. Originally from New Mexico, her veterinary journey has taken her around the world. Before veterinary school, she worked at the Belize Wildlife and Referral Center, rehabilitating injured parrots, monkeys, large jungle cats, and manatees affected by boat injuries. This experience shaped her career path and deepened her passion for veterinary emergency care.

Dr. Wahlen graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 and completed her clinical training at the University of Minnesota. She also completed a rotating internship at the renowned VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, CO, where Animal Planet filmed Emergency Vets and E-Vet Interns. For several years, Dr. Wahlen has focused on overnight emergency work in the Sacramento area, specializing in emergency medicine and emergency surgery.

Outside of work, she enjoys piano, sewing quilts, rock climbing, and hiking. She lives locally with her husband, daughter, and their energetic Australian Shepherd, Ember.
